Home Remedies for Painful Teeth

Your teeth play an important role in your everyday life, so when pain strikes – it can really put a damper on enjoying family get-togethers, eating a slice of birthday cake, or attending a business luncheon. The discomfort of tooth pain can also affect other body parts and make life miserable. To treat the symptoms before a trip to the dentist, you might want to consider home remedies for painful teeth.

Home Remedies for Painful Teeth

Causes and Symptoms

One of the most common causes of painful teeth is tooth decay, which can lead to a cracked tooth or an unbearable toothache. A dental infection of the tooth can cause sharp pain when you bite down on something. Other causes of painful teeth include:

• Loose Filling – When fillings become loose, you can experience sharp pain when you try to eat.

• Sinus Problems – If you feel pain in the upper teeth and experience an achy jaw ache, chances are you are dealing with a sinus issue. This pain is not characterized as being sharp or severe, but it can be uncomfortable. A sinus headache or sinus infection can cause the pain to travel to the upper jaw because it is within close proximity to the sinus cavity.

• An Abscess – Severe pain, pressure and swelling in your mouth that does not go away is an indicator of an abscess, which can fill with pus and blood along the gum line. The infection can be in the tooth, gum or bone, which causes pain when you bite down or eat.

• Damaged Pulp Tissue – Nerves are found inside the pulp layer of your tooth, and when you have a dental infection – severe pain can develop. When the pulp is damaged or infected, lingering pain can travel to your head, neck and ear.

• Dental Conditions – Physical issues in the mouth can cause tooth pain, such as problems with your temporomandibular joint[1] (also known as the TMJ).

• Tooth Sensitivity – Following a dental treatment or other issue, the teeth can become sensitive to heat or cold. Disrupting nerves within the pulp layer are to blame – the pain comes on suddenly and then goes away over time. An exposed root can also cause tooth sensitivity and pain.

• Extreme Tooth Damage – A lingering pain in one or more teeth after you consume something that is hot or cold means that the tooth is likely damaged by deep decay or a fracture to the tooth.

Painful Teeth Home Remedies

Whether you’ve cracked a tooth or recently had dental work done, you will experience pain in the mouth region at some point in your lifetime. The discomfort can slow you down and make it impossible to complete everyday tasks. Luckily, there is a wealth of home remedies for painful teeth that can get you up and running back to normal. A handful of suggestions include:

Cloves:
Using cloves for pain relief has been a remedy standing the test of time. Place a clove against painful teeth until the discomfort starts to subside. If you have clove oil in your cabinet, one to two drops can address the issue. It is the active ingredient called eugenol in the oil that acts as a natural pain reliever [2], but keep in mind that too much clove oil is toxic. You can also reach into the kitchen cupboard for your container of ground cloves, which you can turn into a thick paste by adding water or olive oil. Apply the remedy to your affected teeth and surrounding gums.

Tea:
The tannins found in tea leaves can help numb nagging tooth pain. Simply make a fresh cup of tea and stick the warmed used tea bag into your mouth. Hold the bag over your painful teeth to enjoy instant relief.

Frozen Washcloth:
When a baby is teething and experiencing painful teeth, let him or her chew on a frozen, damp washcloth.

Your Finger:
Applying pressure in the form of a gentle massage to the teeth and gums of a baby will provide relief from the pain of teething.

Ice:
Holding an ice pack covered in a washcloth over your cheek can help ease the discomfort of a painful tooth. The coldness of the ice will help numb the pain.

Hot Compress:
Some people react better to a hot compress held to the cheek region where you are experiencing tooth pain. Make sure that the compress is not too hot – you don’t want to burn your skin.

Cayenne Pepper:
Add a small amount of water to cayenne pepper, which will create a paste that when applied to sore gums – can help stop tooth pain.

Salt Water:
If your painful teeth are connected to an accumulation of bacteria, try swishing a small amount of heated salt water inside of your mouth. Hold in the water for as long as you can, and then spit out. Repeat a couple of times to see an improvement in pain levels. Add one healing spoonful of salt to a glass of warm to hot water to begin.

Hydrogen Peroxide:
With a bubbling action that heals, swish a bit of hydrogen peroxide close to a painful tooth. Some people cannot stand the taste of this remedy and will have to dilute the liquid with a small amount of water. Make sure to spit out the hydrogen peroxide after using in the mouth.

Extracts:
Flavorful extracts are not only helpful for enhancing the taste of food, but their alcohol content can help treat painful teeth. One of the best options is the pleasantly tasting vanilla extract, but you can also choose almond, peppermint or lemon. Simply saturate a cotton ball with the extract, and then hold in place over a painful tooth. You can also apply a cotton swab dipped in extract to painful gums and teeth.

Apple Cider Vinegar:
After soaking a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar, hold the remedy in place over a painful tooth to enjoy relief. Some people will also use regular household vinegar to achieve the same results.

Garlic:
Smash a clove of garlic before applying to a painful tooth – right between the cheek and tooth. You can also add a small amount of salt to the mashed garlic for enhanced results.

Potato:
Take the skin off of a raw potato before cutting a fresh piece and holding in place over a painful tooth.

Cucumber:
Hold a slice of fresh cucumber over a painful tooth to take advantage of its cooling properties. It is best to use a cucumber that has been stored in the refrigerator. Another variation of this remedy is to mash a piece of cucumber with a small amount of salt before applying to sore areas.

Ginger:
Chew on a fresh piece of ginger to receive instant pain relief for a problem tooth.

Black Pepper:
Apply ground black pepper to a painful tooth or rub in a mixture of pepper and salt to see a change in pain.

Liquor:
The alcohol content in liquors, such as scotch, brandy, whiskey and vodka, zeroes in on pain to provide relief. Swish a small amount inside your mouth to see results.

Mouthwash:
A strong mouthwash (like Listerine)[3] not only kills pain-causing bacteria, but the alcohol also treats painful teeth. Swish the mouthwash and then promptly spit out.

Baking Soda:
Moisten a Q-tip with a small amount of water and then dip it in baking soda – making sure to coat the swab well with baking soda. Rub the Q-tip into the affected teeth and gums to gain pain relief. Some people have also made a mouth rinse by mixing one heaping spoonful of baking soda into a small glass of lukewarm to warm water. After the baking soda dissolves, swish the remedy inside of your mouth.

Peppermint:
You’re in luck if you grow peppermint in your garden because the fresh leaves can help alleviate tooth pain. Just hold in place over the affected area to calm the discomfort.

Lime:
A slice or wedge of lime can help treat a tooth that is bothersome. A lime that has been chilled will work best to treat tooth pain. Biting into the lime helps release some of the juice that will help put an end to the pain.

Onion:
It may smell unpleasant, but a slice of fresh onion held inside of your mouth and gum region of painful teeth can provide relief. You must use a freshly cut onion because it is the juice that will deliver pain relief.

Prenatal Yoga Poses

The world over people are realising the benefits of yoga and pranayama in our daily lives. Yoga is touted not just as a physical exercise, but actually a way of exercising each entity of human existence. It is physical, mental, spiritual, intellectual, as well as emotional well being that Yoga hopes to achieve through exercise, concentration as well as breathe control. Most of the times, strenuous exercises like the Surya Namaskar are forbidden for pregnant women as the body of a pregnant woman is rather weak and thus prone to easy injury, which might also affect the child within her.

Prenatal Yoga Poses

This, however, is not to mean that yoga itself is injurious to the health of a pregnant woman. In fact, some postures in yoga are extremely beneficial for a pregnant woman. We all know about the fact that few women are able to give birth naturally these days owing either to complications or lifestyle issues. Some easy and less strenuous yoga postures will actually help the woman have a natural childbirth, free of complications or Caesarean section operations and so on. Here are a few prenatal yoga poses for pregnant women.

Pregnancy Yoga Poses

Here are some yoga poses beneficial for women who are pregnant:

Bridge Pose (Setu Bandha Sarvangasana)

This pose is known to strengthen the spine, open the chest and the lungs to make breathing better and easier and is also effective for stimulating the thyroid gland. For this pose, you need to begin by lying supine on your back. Then, bending by the knees, bring the soles of your feet close to your buttocks so that they are parallel to each other. Interlace your fingers and bring them under your back. Now, lift your body, from the hips to the ceiling. Stretch your interlaced fingers bringing them as close to the ankles of your feet as possible. Even as you stretch, do not forget to inhale deeply. Now push your shoulders above the ground too, one at a time. Exhale and relax the fingers, even as you bring down your upper middle and finally lower body to the ground. Let the body loose, allow your knees to knock against each other and relax completely.

Cobblers’ Pose (Badhdha Konasana)
This pose is known to open and stretch the lower abdomen, hips, and the groin, giving it a thorough exercise. For this pose, you will have to begin by sitting erect on the floor with your legs outstretched. Bending your legs at the knees, bring the soles of your feet together so that you create butterfly’s wings-like structure with your legs. Keeping your hand on the knees, press the legs down gently as much as you can, and then slowly release.

The Child Pose (Balasana)

The child pose proves to be immensely helpful in opening up your chest and pelvis. For this, you will need to go down on all fours, with your knees spread out just a little wider than your hips. Gently and gradually now, support your buttocks firmly between your heels, stretch your arms out, with the palms of the hands pointing towards the floor and rest your forehead on the ground; exhale while you are in this position. Raise your arms from the ground so that only the palms touch the ground while your whole upper body is supported by your hands, like a baby about to crawl, even as you inhale deeply. Repeat this exercise at least ten times, but do remember to know your limitations.

Some Precautions

Here are a few precautions that you need to keep in mind while practicing yoga during pregnancy:

By all means, keep away from pre-natal yoga exercises that require you to stretch your body too strenuously, especially your abdominal muscles. You must realise that injuring yourself is all the more easy when you are pregnant.

Always listen to what your body is trying to tell you. If a particular pose causes discomfort or pain, alter it or stop doing it. There is no harm in adapting the pre-natal yoga exercises to suit your body as it changes throughout your pregnancy.

It is extremely important not to compress your abdomen. If you need to bend forward while you're sitting, place a towel or strap around your feet and hold each end. Then bend from the hips and lift your chest. When you do pre-natal yoga exercises that involve twisting, you need to twist more from the shoulders and back as this will avoid putting pressure on your abdomen.

Many of those who go for a brisk walk every morning or evening, thinking that it will help them burn a few calories, are soon jolted out of their illusions when they come to know that it is one of the least strenuous and effective cardio exercises that would help lose weight.

Cardio Workouts For Weight Loss

If one really wants to lose weight and make it effective, one has to go for a workout regime that would really increase the metabolic rate so that fats burn faster and thus aid in weight loss. Here are a few cardio workouts that aid in weight loss

Bicycling
Perhaps the most eco friendly and least boring way to lose weight would be about 45 minutes of cycling every day – it could be on the stationary cycle or the mobile one. It comes under aerobic exercises and is extremely helpful for toning muscles of the upper thighs and calves. In addition to all that, it helps build stamina and is excellent for the heart, blood vessels, and lungs. The best part about it is that one can do it in the open as well as in the comfort of one’s home, with an easily available exer-cycle. Many exer-cycles are foldable and occupy very little space. It is, however, advisable to wear lose and comfortable clothes and durable shoes while exercising as strenuous as this. Also, it is better to do some stretching exercises before going for a non-stop cycling session.

Step aerobics are excellent for building lean muscles, which will result in increased calorie burning. Because of the motions done in step aerobics, much of the muscle gain will be in the legs, buttocks, and arms. The increased muscle activity in these areas will assist in firming them up and getting rid of extra fat stored there. It is also a way to increase the metabolic rate of the body. Assuming that your intake of food remains the same, your body will actually begin to lose weight rather than gain. All you need is comfortable shoes, a room, and music. Make sure you do stretching exercises prior to it and go from slow to fast to slow again.

Swimming
The only other exercise that could give the whole body a workout is swimming. The breaststroke alone can burn about 400 calories in half an hour. After all, swimming uses almost all of your major muscle groups. It places a vigorous demand on your heart and lungs. Swimming is also popular with people who are extremely overweight, pregnant, or suffering from some kind of injury. It is excellent for toning the thighs, calves, upper arms and the buttocks, which many people complain they can never get rid of.

Though this was primarily supposed to be a ‘male’ form of exercise, kickboxing is now finding a heavily accepting crowd with the so-called weaker sex! The only difference is that women take it to be able to lose weight. One could begin with aerobics or with any other form of stretching exercise to warm up before beginning a rigourous kickboxing regime.

Stomach Ache During Pregnancy

Pregnancy and pain are ageless companions, much like aches and aspirin, or moon and night. Nevertheless, an unexpected cramp or a sudden spasm during pregnancy can throw your gumption out of the porthole. Before you hit the panic button, know that certain amount of pain and discomfort is pretty much normal during pregnancy.

Pregnancy Tips :

Stomach Ache During Pregnancy

While nagging pains and cramps can be highly annoying at times, it is important to understand that they are anything, but life threatening and are more often just gentle reminders for you to take things easy. Anything from gas pain to raging hormones to bulging uterus can trigger discomfort in your tummy. However, severe cramping or stomach pain is something that should not ignored, as they can be an emergency signal of serious complications. If you are an expecting mom, then reading the following causes of stomach pain during pregnancy will save you from losing your sleep over it. Read on to know more on causes of stomach pain during pregnancy.

Causes Of Stomach Pain During Pregnancy

Most expecting women complain of stomach cramps during the early stages of their pregnancy. While these cramps are most often a gentle reminder that you should slow down and take things easy, at times they can be a warning sign of more serious complication like ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy or ‘tubal pregnancy’ occurs when the fertilized ovum is implanted outside the uterus, somewhere in the fallopian tube. As the egg starts to develop, it induces severe strain in the pelvic and abdominal region causing sharp, stabbing pain in the abdomen that might just get worse with physical activity, bowel movement, coughing and more.

Cramps during pregnancy are nothing unusual and count up as normal pregnancy discomforts. However, severe cramping accompanied by vaginal bleeding can indicate a more serious case of miscarriage. The pain may be light or intense, short or long lasting and generally varies from one woman to another. Some may experience low backache or complain of dull abdominal pain and pelvic pressure too.

This Special Guide Contains 7,000+ Baby Names :

Of all the concerns usually tagged along with pregnancy pain, prematurity is possibly the worst dreaded fear. An early onset of labor can induce premature contractions, which may last up to four hours or even more, menstrual-like cramps, dull nagging backache, intestinal cramps, pelvic pressure and increased vaginal secretions. It is best to consult your practitioner at the soonest if you experience any of these symptoms to avert any untoward complications.

How often you have jumped out of your sleep believing that “this must be it” and then went back to sleep again realizing that this was not the real thing? Most women experience contractions or tightening of uterus, during the last trimester of pregnancy, which are nothing more than false labor or Braxton-Hicks Contraction. These contractions are irregular, infrequent and painless and spell no danger in real sense.

Pregnant women are unusually susceptible to bladder infection during pregnancy because of changing urinary tract position. As pregnancy advances, the uterus increases in size, thereby blocking the drainage of urine from the bladder and inducing an infection. Bladder infection can lead to pain or burning when urinating, cramps or pain in the lower abdomen, cloudy foul smelling urine and tenderness in the region.

Fasting To Lose Weight Fast

Fasting has always been a part of many religions. It is a time of repentance, of cleansing both the body and the soul. It is also a scientific fact that fasting is the best way to detoxify the body as during fasting the body does not have to spend the energy on digestion. As such, it uses this energy to cleanse the body. Since the body stores fat reserves, during fasting, it utilizes these reserves to run the system. Comparing crash diet and fasting, it can be blatantly said that the former pose to be of little help in losing weight as in most cases the craving for the food remains intact. As such, the person tends to fall back to the original routine again, thereby gaining more weight.

Fasting To Lose Weight Fast

In fasting, however, there is a greater amount of control over food addiction. Also, in fasting, the weight is lost quickly, as more and more fat reserves are used, due to less or no food intake. While on fast, drinking juice, water and eating raw and organic food is allowed. These provide the necessary nutrients to the body. However, when fasting, caution is advised and it should be done in a planned manner for better results. Given below are a few weight loss tips through fasting.

Quick Weight Loss Tips Through Fasting

Firstly, find out if you are medically fit enough to go on a fast. If you are suffering from any disorders or diseases, then you should go for fasting under medical supervision. Also, it is very necessary that you mentally prepare yourself for the fast so that you do not leave midway. Determination is the key to fasting. You should be determined to go on the fast to have successful results.

Before starting on the process, do a complete research to familiarize yourself about the various types of fasting for weight loss. There are several types of fasting like water fasting, juice fasting and the like. Find out which type of fasting will provide you the most benefit and which ones appeals to your body type the most.

Once you have decided on the fasting program, you should not immediately set up on a long duration fast. First take several short fasts, so that you understand how your body reacts to it. Only after that you should go for a fast of a longer duration.

Initially fasting may create various gastric discomforts. As such, it is advised to use a colon cleansing supplement to cleanse the colon so that you do not discontinue the fast due to gastric discomfort.

During the fast, you should drink at least 10 glasses of water every day, even if you are on a juice fast. It is always better to drink purified water, as the tap water may reintroduce the toxins into the body.

Breaking the fast is also a very crucial step as starting on a fast. Do not break the fast with a large meal. Start with a glass of lime and salt juice and then eat a small meal so that the body reacts to the food better. Once this is digested, eat normally.

If food addiction is also an issue that you need to deal with, apart from weight loss, then you should go for a ten to thirty day fast. This is very effective in curbing the food addiction. Another effective way is to alternate between fasting and eating. Fast for a two to three days and then eat a healthy organic meal. Then, again go for a fast and then resume eating.

Another effective fasting method for weight loss is to consume raw foods during the fast. This will help you stop bingeing on food after the fast. Raw foods will not only keep you full, but also provide the body with nutrients, so that you do not get malnourished during the fast.

HOME REMEDIES FOR BELLY FAT

1. Stay well hydrated – Not too many people know it, but one of the best home remedies for belly fat is hydration. Dehydration can slow down your body’s metabolism which, in turn, can aid in the build-up of fat. Studies have shown that drinking 500 ml of water increases a person’s metabolism for about 30 minutes. (In that time, an individual has already burned 25 calories, which is around 5 M&Ms chocolate).

2. Increase your consumption of nuts – Nuts such as peanuts, walnuts, and almonds help you reduce belly fat because they’re rich in protein, as well as healthy fats such as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Nuts make a perfect snack because the proteins they contain effectively quench hunger and stimulate fat metabolism.

3. Get adequate sleep – Spending more time under the covers has been proven to help reduce belly fat. Evidence suggests that people who lack sleep metabolize calories less efficiently than those who are well rested. What is more, individuals with disturbed biorhythms tend to eat more. Getting eight hours of sleep a night is one of the best home remedies for belly fat that you can follow.

4. Curb your intake of carbs – Cutting back on sugar and sticking to good carbs can do wonders for your stomach. According to experts, designing snacks around complex carbohydrates over simple carbohydrates can help reduce belly fat. Complex carbs such as whole grains, legumes, potatoes, and corn can make you feel full for extended periods and are less likely to make you eat more often.

5. Get enough Vitamin C – Vitamin C is more than just an immune booster, it is also a belly fat buster. Vitamin C is essential for the production of molecules used for the proper metabolism of fat. Without it, the body won’t be able to use stored fat. Studies reveal that people with low vitamin C tend to have higher waist measurement despite overall weight loss. So, if you want to lose belly fat fast, be sure to include Vitamin C in your diet.

6. Get into a regular exercise program – It is important to keep the body working so that the metabolism rate never slows down. This results in a steady burning of calories and melting of stores and stubborn fats. To be able to stick to an exercise routine, it is important that you like what you are doing. There are so many ways to get your body moving. Choose a sport or exercise system that you like doing. Staying active around the house or office can also help you burn those fats in your midsection.

How To Lose Face Fat

You may have the most gorgeous skin tone, the most ravishing eyes and a svelte nose, good enough to give Carmen Electra some heartburn, but even the most prettiest of peepers and the most pronounced cheekbones can be sidelined by uh-not-so-sexy facial fat at times. Doesn’t matter how much blush and bronze you dab, there is very little you can do to camouflage the baggy chin or fix the apple-round cheek.

How To Lose Face Fat

If you are embarrassed about your burly facial features and don’t mind getting under a knife to slash off the extra facial pounds, then this article can turn out to be a life-changing event for you. Agreed, facial fat is indeed a big aesthetic embarrassment! Thanks to stress, saltines, junk food, alcohol, smoke and poor sleep, you can soon end up looking like an overinflated balloon, all set to burst. If you are hunting for a fat-torching plan to take off those extra pounds from your face without starving yourself to death or feeding yourself on bizarre weight-loss supplements, then scrolling down this article should leave you with more cues on how to go about it.

Do you hate your Facebook display picture and wish you could find a way to beat your chubby cheeks and double chin? Well, before you set yourself for a facial butchering, just grab gallons of water and guzzle it down. This is sure to subtract pounds from your face. Hydrating yourself is probably the best way to deflate your bloated features and make you look good. Just guzzle at least eight glasses of water every day to kick-start your metabolism and flush out the unnecessary toxins out of your body. Water has zero calories and no sodium, making it the perfect slim-down drink. If plain water isn’t really your potion, you can always use lemon wedges and mint sprigs to pump it up.

If you wish to slash off extra pounds from your cheeks and chin, just eat! Contrary to what most people think, eating doesn’t lead to weight gain, not at least if you eat right! Just raid the supermarket aisles, grab all the fresh fruits, raw veggies, sprouts, nuts and seeds, and treat yourself to this enriching cocktail of powerful nutrients like amino acids, enzymes, minerals, fibers etc. Raw nutrients will help to clean up your gut, metabolize excess fat, detoxify your liver, alleviate stress and reverse ageing. Low sodium and high potassium content in raw foods actually helps the body to pass out all the excess water, leaving you with a glowing skin and a beautiful face to boot.

Too much of boozing won’t just leave you with an expanded waistline, but an ugly facial pudge as well. Peel off a few extra pounds from your face by dumping the beer pint right away and save calories from piling up on your face. Alcohol tends to desiccate the body, leaving it high and dry. What’s more, alcohol contains high calories that stack up fat on your waist, bust, arms, chin, cheeks and everywhere, making you look like bloated.

Baby fat or not, extra adipose tissues on your face is an absolute bummer. If you wish to dump the facial flab for good, cut out on all white grain products like white rice, sandwich rolls, spaghetti and more and get a slimmer face in a couple of weeks. Watch what you eat and you won’t end up binging more on sugar candies and beer. Eat healthy and eat with a mind to feed your muscles and body with good fuel!

Weight Loss After Pregnancy

The nine months of pregnancy swept past and you have been blessed with a bundle of joy in your arms. One look at your little angel and you know that all the pain and discomforts were worth it. However, one problem that is making you restless is the extra weight and inches that you have gained in the nine months. Trying to have weight loss after pregnancy is no easy task. However, if you are willing to be patient and indulge in regular and dedicated efforts, the results will start showing soon. Want to know more?

Weight Loss After Pregnancy

Be Practical

If, and when, you decide to achieve weight loss after pregnancy, make sure to keep your expectations reasonable. Looking up to the celebrity moms, who have lost inches as well as kilos within days of delivery, is surely not a good idea. Remember, it took you almost nine months to reach this size. Going back to the original figure would also take a few months. Being patient and sticking to the weight loss program is a must.

Eat Healthy, But Don't Starve

Going on a crash diet is not at all a good way to lose weight. Rather than starving yourself, by following a strict diet regime, you need to start eating healthy food. If you are breastfeeding, you will need the extra calories as well. However, you can ensure that the calories come from things like fruits and vegetables, rather than oil and full-of-fat food items. Rather than dieting, concentrate your efforts on healthy eating.

Indulge In Exercise
Indulging in a regular exercise program is one of the best ways to lose weight after pregnancy. However, do not make the mistake of starting an exercising program two days after giving birth to your baby. The pregnancy has lead to major changes in your body and you need to give it some time, to return back to normal. It is always advisable to do strenuous exercises only a few weeks after coming home, that too after consulting your doctor.

Continue Breastfeeding

It is believed that breastfeeding can help a woman shed those extra kilos, after pregnancy. So, make sure to breastfeed your baby on a regular basis. However, this alone would not help you lose all of the pregnancy weight. You need to combine it with other types of weight-loss activities, such as a healthy diet and a proper exercise program. Not much time later, you will find yourself losing all the extra kilos.

Start Walking

This is one of the activities that you can start a few days after going through the delivery. However, the intensity of the walks will be determined by your physical health. In the initial days, it is advisable to stick to 10-15 minutes of light walk. Gradually, you can increase the time as well as intensity, taking it to no less than 45 minutes of brisk walking, on a daily basis. If you want, you can also substitute walking with jogging, but only later on.
