Over exposure to the ultra violet rays of the sun can be potentially very dangerous for our skin. Sunburns can lead to serious long-term skin damages. In fact, the cumulative effects of sunburn begin at a very early age i.e. right from childhood. Sunbathers generally overexpose their skin to sunrays, as the initial stages of sunburn don’t cause any pain or irritation. It is important to avoid sunburns, as they can even have life threatening and dire consequences. This article dwells upon the dangers of sunburn at length. Sunburns can cause melanoma, which is the worst form of skin cancer. It is the fastest spreading cancer and can prove to be fatal as well. Dark-colored freckling on the skin's surface can be identified as signs of melanoma. It is easily visible to the naked eye. Fair skinned people, who spend a large amount of time taking sunbath, are more susceptible to melanoma. It is advisable to get the signs examined by a doctor.

There is a condition called actinic keratoses, in addition to melanoma, in which sun-affected growths begin to appear on the face, hands and forehand of a person. Usually, such growths are non-cancerous in nature. However, a doctor must be consulted on the first sight of any such evidence.

Cataracts and other eye diseases, such as macular degeneration, can be caused by repeated sunburns.

It has been established by scientific studies that human immune system is compromised by sunburns. The efficacy of white blood cells is adversely affected by them and the sufferers are more prone to falling sick. People with naturally dark skin are at a greater risk.

Sunburns also accelerate premature aging of the skin, with wrinkles and age spots appearing much earlier than their time.

Pre-cancerous growths are also fostered by sunburns. This is one of the extremely harmful effects of sunburn.

Sunburns can cause skin blistering, chills and fevers, temporary pains and redness of the skin.

Photosensitive reactions may also occur due to overexposure to the harmful radiation of the sun.

Precautions

To protect yourself from the sweltering sun heat, apply generous amounts of good-quality sunscreen and lotions with 15 SPF or higher, on your exposed body parts.

Sun radiations are the most dangerous between 10 am and 4 pm in the day. Take care to use complete protection between these hours, if you are going out in the open.

Apply the sunscreen 15-30 minutes before going out in the sun. At the same time, remember to re-apply it every 2-3 hours, if you are going to spend a long time outdoors.

A range of homemade and over the counter remedies exist, which can provide temporary relief from sunrays. However, one should consult a doctor to treat more severe sunburns.

Stay indoors whenever possible, to save yourself from the scorching sun. Try to avoid direct contact with sunlight as much as possible.

Don’t relax on a cloudy day. The sun rays scatter even through the clouds. So, take complete protection.

Effective Herbs for Cellulite Removal

Cellulite is of cosmetic concern to women and is not associated with any health risks. Poor circulation of the lymph which carries waste products and toxins from the different tissues to the blood contributes to cellulite formation. There are many natural methods for getting rid of cellulite, herbs being one of them.

Herbs are medicinal plants, used to strengthen weakened body systems and boost the body's own healing powers.

Effective Herbs for Cellulite Removal

Here are some herbs that have been used in the treatment of cellulite removal:

Gotu kola is a herb with stimulant properties. It helps the body to produce substances that strengthen the collagen fibers and improve the circulation of blood. Gotu kola reduces and slows down the process of hardening of connective tissues below the skin surface. It strengthens the vein walls, thereby preventing damage and leaking veins. It improves the flexibility of the connective tissue.

This in turn improves the skin tone and firmness. The extract of Gotu kola can be used in cream, supplement, and as mesotherapy injection forms for cellulite treatment.

Horse chestnut is a herb with anti-inflammatory properties. One of its components, Aescin, decreases the poresize of the capillary walls and improves their tone thereby improving blood flow. This improvement in the tone of the capillaries under the skin reduces the appearance of the cellulite and smoothens the skin. This makes Aescin in the horse chestnut a valuable component in hand creams, lotions, and other cellulite products.

Grape seed extract reinforces the fibers of collagen, is an antioxidant and helps to maintain the elasticity of the blood vessels. It also contains flavonoids and tannings that strengthen the walls of small veins and lymphatic vessels - it improves circulation from the legs thereby preventing cellulite development.

Ginkgo biloba is a vasodilator which boosts circulation. It acts as an antioxidant and reduces the formation of damaging oxidized cholesterol on the vessels and thus helps in the smooth passage of blood.

Kelp with its high iodine content boosts the body's metabolism and helps to burn more calories. It also contains mucilage, a natural compound that prevents fluid retention. It is often used in cellulite treatment as body wraps.

Green tea is a plant extract that has antioxidant and blood thinning effects. One should have atleast one cup a day of green tea.

Some herbs like dandelion enhance the livers ability to break down waste products and toxins. It also aids the kidneys to filter blood of these waste products and toxins. Dandelion leaves can be added to salads or cooked like spinach. A cup of dandelion tea each day containing 50 Gms of fresh dandelion leaves to half a liter of water.

Sweet clover, sea-weed, lecithins, evening primrose oil, lemon, ivy barley, strawberry, algae etc are also some of the herbal methods to reduce cellulite and improve the skin texture in the affected areas. They are to be rubbed in the affected areas three to four times a day daily.

Herbal remedies help improve the flow of blood and tone the capillary walls under the skin surface thereby improving the skin texture and reducing the cellulite.

Asthmatic Bronchitis in Children or Childhood Asthma

Childhood asthma is what is known as Asthmatic bronchitis in children in medical terms, which means a bronchitis that is asthmatic in nature. The term asthma refers to the breathlessness that is caused due to the constriction of the respiratory tubes which could be due to spasms caused by certain factors. And asthmatic bronchitis is referred to as the disorder of the respiratory system where the lung tubes meet with episodic or chronic episodes of spasms. The causes, however, may be different from individual to individual. Also, the frequency, the duration and the intensity of attacks also vary from child to child.

The factors that are responsible for determining the intensity of the attack are the individual sensitivity, external factors such as the strength of the allergens.

It goes the same for the frequency and duration of attack as well. Thus, in the case of childhood asthma, it is not difficult to draw the conclusion of childhood asthma as a disorder where determining the internal factors is more than or as important as the external factors. Some of the common symptoms that would accompany this condition in children are cold, runny nose, sneezing, blocked nose, sore throat w/o fever, chest congestion, wheeze etc.

However, there might be also certain cases where the asthma attack may occur suddenly without any asthma warning signs. As far as the causes are concerned, it can be broadly classified into extrinsic and intrinsic factors. The extrinsic factors mainly consist of the environmental factors such as a wide range of allergens, temperature intolerance, and other infections such as viral, bacterial etc. Intrinsic factors on the other hand help the external factors to produce asthma. The susceptibility of the child plays a major role in triggering asthma in children. Hereditary is another major factor.
