So far, no one has been able to identify what are the causes of nasal allergies and why some of us are hypersensitive and others are not, when exposed to allergens, which rarely harms the body. And these sometimes result into violent reactions in the body, which could lead to minimal brain dysfunction and faulty thinking in children.
Nasal allergies are usually caused by bacteria, dust, mold etc which enter through our nose and react with the nose cells. Another main cause is the over-sensitive immune system of the body. Here are some of the other reasons causing this:
1) Pollen: This seasonal allergy becomes very miserable for those during spring, summer and autumn, when plants release pollens. However, the visible pollens do not cause allergy, it is the very tiny one which causes it. It is not possible to avoid the wind-borne pollens as it can travel far and wide efficiently.
2) Molds: That grows in compost and moist atmosphere, fallen leaves, rotten things etc are very likely to trigger nasal allergies. There are a large number of mold spores which outnumbers even the pollens but luckily not all spores are harmful.
3) Dust mites: These are commonly found living in the upholster of your carpets, furniture, mattresses, stuffed toys, curtains etc. they flourish in the household the whole winter season. So, it is very likely that you would suffer from nasal allergies all year long even if the mold and pollen seasons are over.
4) Animal dander: We have the misconception that we are allergic to the animal fur and hair but it is the animal dander, saliva, urine which leads to irritation in the nose that triggers nasal allergies.
5) There are factors which may irritate the nose and sometimes cause allergy such as exposure to cigarette smoke, being a low-birth-weight baby, being a bottle-fed baby, being born during high-pollen seasons, perfume, aerosol sprays, smoke from wood stoves or fireplaces, car exhaust, and strong odors are examples of irritants, etc.
Sometimes, you may even inherit nasal allergies from your parents, if they suffer from them. Also, it depends on the individual’s sensitivity whether he is susceptible to one or more allergens.
