Aromatherapy for Snoring

Snoring is one of the most awful habits that a person develops. Though the person who is snoring might not realize the problem but it creates a nuisance for those around him. Snoring is a result of improper respiratory system. It can lead to sleeplessness, failed relationships, less productivity etc. and thus should not be taken very lightly. Anything that helps with the proper respiration during sleeping will reduce snoring. Among other ways of treatment, Aromatherapy is one such therapy which also helps in reducing snoring, thus helping other members of the family and the person snoring to get better sleep. 


Of all the essential oils that are there, marjoram and lavender are the two oils which are widely used for treating snoring. Lavender helps in inducing sleep and works effectively on those suffering from insomnia, depression and anxiety. It also helps in boosting the immune system. Marjoram on the other hand is widely known to cure snoring on its own. Snoring usually takes place because of the vibrations in the back of the throat. Marjoram particularly helps in lessening the vibration. Marjoram essential oil combined with lavender ensures a proper sleep without snoring. 

Essentials oils in order to induce proper sleep and to reduce can be used as diffuser, mist spray or body massage.

As a Diffuser

1) Cajeput 20%, lavender 20%, thyme 20%, anise 20%, juniper berry 20%.

2) Spruce 50%, Marjoram 25%, Lavender 20%.

3) Bois-de rose 25%, lavender 25%, cajeput 25%, cubeb 15%, Eucalyptus 10%.

Place the essential oils in the bottle or the diffuser pad to circulate the scent around your surrounding. 

As a Mist Sprayer

1)60 drops marjoram, 50 drops sandalwood, 20 drops bois-de-rose, 20 drops litsea cubeba. 

2) 40 drops lavender, 30 drops Atlas cedar wood, 30 drops cardamom, 30 drops fir needles, 20 drops fennel.

3) 60 drops Atlas cedar wood, 50 drops myrtle, 40 drops spruce, 25 drops grapefruit.

Make sure to put some water, say about 4 oz, before you finally add the scent. 

Shake it properly once you added the scents to the water. Sprinkle it around the pillow and the snorer’s head. However make sure to spray it directly on the face.

As a Massage

1) 4 teaspoons sesame oil, 7 drops sandalwood, 7 drops Roman chamomile, 4 drops marjoram, 2 drops thyme.

2) 4 teaspoons sesame oil, 6 drops lavender, 6 drops sandalwood, 4 drops copaiba, 4 drops myrtle.

3) 4 teaspoons sesame oil, 8 drops Peru balsam, 6 drops marjoram, 3 drops black pepper, 3 drops cajeput.

Make sure to massage the back of the neck, upper chest, shoulders, abdomen for about 30 minutes or until the oil is properly absorbed.

Tips:

1) Choose the essential oil(s) from the recommended ingredients that most appeal to you for your oil blend.

2) Avoid marjoram and rosemary oil if you are pregnant.

3) Consult your physician and an Aromatherapist prior to using essential oils if you are pregnant.

4) Do not rub your eyes after using essential oils. (Rinse your eyes with cold water if you get any essential oil in your eye.)

5) Keep essential oils away from heat and open flames.

These were some ways to use aromatherapy for the treatment of snoring. 

However, make sure to consult an experienced or well trained Aromatherapist to prevent any unwanted complications. Though there aren’t any medical proofs however a number of people have claimed that aromatherapy does help in the treatment of snoring.
