Ocular Migraine Symptoms

Ocular migraine or optical migraine as such is not a common cause of concern however the word migraine often reminds us of the severe headache. Ocular migraine is also referred to as retinal migraine which could even lead to blindness. Though this type of migraine is not very common yet some people do suffer from it though very rarely. Those people suffering from this type of migraine usually experience a number of visual symptoms. Though the exact biological causes of this condition is not yet known however, some factors that are under consideration are nerve palsy, internal carotid artery aneurysms and diabetes. These are some of the common causes of ocular migraines.

Ocular Migraine Symptoms

As far as the symptoms are concerned, most of the symptoms are associated with the eye. The pain is developed often around the eyes.

Following are some of the optical or ocular migraine symptoms:

1) Blind spots

2) Flashes of light

3) Nausea

4) Vomiting

5) Double vision

6) Eye paralysis

7) Zigzag patterns

You may experience the attack within a short period of time but it is generally harmless and do not leave behind any permanent neurological effect. However, it is important to see a doctor for there might be other condition which demands treatment. Another point worth noting is that the symptoms of ocular migraine may greatly vary from person to person. For some people stress, certain food with additives etc. could trigger the attack. Sometimes this condition could be accompanied by other symptoms of migraine. There are a number of medications available for the treatment of such conditions.
