Nasal Allergies

Some of us are hypersensitive to foreign particles, which might not harm others, but might produce violent reaction to some of us. Even the slightest thing can trigger allergy to those who are oversensitive. There are different types of allergy, but nasal allergies and chronic allergy are the most common forms of allergy.

Nasal Allergies

Nasal allergy occurs when the nasal linings overreact to certain allergens that you breathe in with the air. It is also known as hay fever, allergic rhinitis. One might conceive from the name that it is caused by hay. However, hay has nothing to do with nasal allergy, it is the pollen that is being referred here. Most of the Americans including children and adults suffer from it. It is usually characterized by itchy nose and eyes, watery nose and nasal discharge.

When the nasal allergy occurs at a specific time of the year i.e. during the spring season it is known as hay fever or seasonal allergy and if it occurs the whole year round it is known as perennial allergy. The individual who suffers from perennial allergy mostly develop the symptoms since early childhood.

Nasal allergies causes are usually airborne particles such as pollen, dust, dust mites, animal dander, cockroaches and mold spores. However, there are other allergens which are likely to trigger allergy for instance, food allergens like milk, egg, tomato, meat, drugs, food additives etc.

The most common symptoms that accompany nasal allergy are sneezing, coughing, red, watery eyes, nasal congestion, swelling etc. the allergic reaction can make an individual susceptible to sinusitis and asthma. Other than this, a nasal allergy can also cause sore throat, stomachache, headache, loss of sleep, irritation, stuffiness in your cheeks, tiredness, loss of concentration etc.

There is no definite treatment for this sensitivity; all you can do is to protect yourself from the allergens. Though there are a number of medications available at the chemist and might help you to get immediate relief but in the long run, this might result into various side effects to your health.
